by Alex Tooke & Derek Weber

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community's diversity and resilience. But for many LGBTQ+ individuals, finding a safe and welcoming space to live can be a challenge. Discrimination in housing is a real and persistent issue, and Pride Month is a crucial time to raise awareness about the "Stop Hate in Real Estate" initiative.

The Fight for Fair HousingThe Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, and disability. However, sexual orientation and gender identity are not explicitly included in the Act. This means that LGBTQ+ renters and homebuyers can still face discrimination from landlords, property managers, and real estate agents. The "Stop Hate in Real Estate" initiative aims to combat this discrimination by educating the public and the real estate industry about fair housing laws and promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion.
